Woodridge Trailhead

3Rivers has recently partnered up with Woodridge College and Preparatory School to open their trails to 3Rivers Annual Members as well as Woodridge parents, staff, children and alumni. The trails start and end at the Challenge Course at the College (see map below).

The Woodridge Trails were built by Billy Teeton with several other Port Elizabeth mountain biking legends contributing over the years. After the 2017 fires, the trails were destroyed and the school, faced with the massive task of having to essentially rebuild the school, struggled to get them up and running again with the resources available to them. 3Rivers, having a close association with the school, stepped in to assist and have spent several months carrying out maintenance and adding berms, bridges and jumps to make it a fun trail for all.

The 8km ‘Ouma Cadles’ singletrack loop traverses a diverse mix of terrain and vegetation with incredible views of Woodridge and the Van Stadens Bridge. This XC-style loop takes riders around the perimeter of the school and offers riders and runners the opportunity to improve their skills, get fitter and have some fun.

For those in search of more adrenalin-pumping trails, ‘Deadshot George’ is a 2km addition to the ‘Ouma Cadles’ loop which dives down into the gorge and adds 109 metres descending and roughly the same amount of ascending . This extra section is rocky and technical and is recommended for technically advanced riders only. ‘3 Must O Dears’ is a short, 400m downhill section that links onto the ‘Deadshot George’ climb and will also test the skills of most riders and should be approached with caution.

It is important to note that the Woodridge Trailhead is only open to our annual members. The trailhead is officially open. Should you ride there, please ensure you sign in with security at the gate and ensure you have your annual permit on hand to avoid disappointment.
